The Braves are attempting to turn the season around after a massive win against the Milwaukee Brewers in game one of the three-game series
After an outstanding performance from Chris Sale (7 IP/5 H/ 1 ER/ 2 BB/ 11 K’s) with the Atlanta Braves yesterday against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Braves now have a new goal— to secure a series win on the road for the second game of the three-game series and attempt to climb back up the National League rankings, currently nine games under .500. The team was able to snag a 7-1 win and their first win of June, breaking their seven-game losing streak.
Only pitching three innings and giving up three earned runs in his last outing against Arizona last week, Grant Holmes is looking to improve immensely going into tonight’s game. Holmes has been a solid starter with much success across a majority of his mound appearances.
He’s currently boasting a current 3.99 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 13 games this season, and previously gained top five for MLB daily Whiff leaders in the month of May.
Although coming off a disappointing appearance, and one of the shortest innings he’s pitched in since his season start, the one thing the Braves know how to do is treat every day like a new day.
Holmes has shown his consistency for quality across his performances, mainly displaying his four-seamers and sliders in his arsenal, providing challenging at-bats for his opponents.
With a keen focus of commanding the zone and sticking to his foundation for this outing, Braves fans are hoping to see the same Holmes from the beginning of the season, who’s been pitching deeper into games and recording valuable strikeouts.
For the Brewers, Quinn Priester (3-2) will be taking the mound to face off with Holmes. Although holding an overall 3.88 ERA for the season, Priester has achieved a 2.51 ERA in a total of 32.1 innings pitched across his last six games.
Since his time with the Brewers this season, he’s been transformative as a starter, mostly known for producing ground-balls when contact is made with his pitches.
Braves’ offense will have to look out for Priester’s main two pitches out of his five pitch arsenal that’s been providing great results—his sinker and slider, with his slider gaining a 33.1% whiff rate this season so far.
First pitch will be at 7:40 p.m. ET
