The Braves took a chance and the results have been decidedly meh
Pretty much nothing is going right for the Braves, but this post is a brief callout about the struggles of Rafael Montero. Acquired shortly into the season for a nominal budget hit after two poor campaigns in Houston, Montero did not hit the ground running with the Braves, throwing up a horrendous 124/136/160 line through his first seven appearances with his new team. Pretty much the only saving grace was that he wasn’t giving up homers, and so, despite the awful pitching, he still managed two shutdowns and just one meltdown in those seven games.
After that point, Montero was better — 88/67/98 — not great, still buoyed by a lack of homers, but fine. (He had a 1/1 shutdown/meltdown ratio in that span.) But then, yesterday, the homerless streak ended when he served up a three-run bomb. So, as a Brave, he’s now at 129/106/121. That’s not really someone to keep around, but the Braves have also been fairly slow to jettison underperformers from their roster at this point. So, how much longer is he going to stick around?
(Daily notes won’t be up for a while, busy morning.)
