Anderson continues his journey recovering from elbow surgery.
Ian Anderson, who is about 14 months removed from undergoing Tommy John Surgery, will take a big step in his recovery on Tuesday when he makes a rehab start, according to a report from Scott Kennedy.
Kennedy added that Anderson will pitch in North Port at the club’s spring training facility, presumably making an appearance in the Florida Complex League.
Anderson, who turned 26 last month, is attempting to overcome the elbow ailment on top of a lingering shoulder issue that cost him time in 2021 and 2022. The righty became a postseason hero for the Braves in 2020 and 2021, famously throwing five no-hit innings in Game 3 of the World Series against Houston.
It remains to be seen if Anderson will be able to make an impact on the 2024 Braves. The reported rehab start is encouraging, but even if health cooperates, it will likely be at least two months before he could be considered for a big league role. It generally takes pitchers anywhere from 16-24 months to be fully recovered from Tommy John.
