Jarred Kelenic ‘appears to be fine’ after scary dive in Boston.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox

Jarred Kelenic suffered a wrist injury while making a diving catch during Wednesday’s game in Boston.

It looks like Braves caught a break Wednesday afternoon in Boston, with Jarred Kelenic at least appearing to have escaped the game without a serious wrist injury.

It appears Jarred Kelenic is fine. Snit said there was just no need to take another AB. He said Kelenic tested the strength of his wrist and everything.

Late in the game, Kelenic laid out for a diving grab on a fly out by Emmanuel Valdez, but his hand/wrist was trapped as his body landed and rolled over it.

Trainers attended to him in the outfield and he walked off holding his wrist while returning to the dugout. Kelenic was taken back into the tunnel but returned to the game for the seventh inning with what appeared to be extra tape on his wrist and thumb. However, J.P. Martinez pinch-hit for him in the eighth.

After the game, Kelenic said he feels lucky to have escaped serious injury and the X-rays they took all looked fine.

The Braves can ill-afford to lose another outfielder. The season-ending injury to Ronald Acuña Jr. has thrust Kelenic and Adam Duvall into every day roles. J.P. Martinez is on the active roster as a fourth outfielder. Kelenic has played excellent defense in left field. He’s entered play Wednesday hitting .268/.309/.408 with three homers and a 102 wRC+
