The first baseman joins a former Atlanta Braves legend on an exclusive list.
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson played in his 700 consecutive games when he took his bat to the plate in the top of the first inning of tonight’s game against the New York Mets.
Olson is only the fifth player since divisional play started in 1969 to reach that milestone, joining former Brave Dale Murphy, Pete Rose, Miguel Tejada, Steve Garvey and the MLB all-time record-holder Cal Ripken, Jr.
Should Olson make it to the end of this season with his streak intact, he would have risen to third on the list passing Murphy (740) and Tejada (745).
Prior to the start of this marathon, he also played in every game in the COVID-shortened 2020 season as well as 2018. He joined the Braves in a trade prior to the 2022 campaign and has played in every game as a member of the Braves.
Olson’s iron man streak is the longest active streak in MLB. It started on May 2, 2021 when he was part of the Oakland A’s.
