We’re going back to 2016 to put the band back together
Everybody has been clamoring for changes in the current Atlanta Braves coaching staff. Alex Anthopoulos was apparently listening.
The #Braves today have named Fredi González as acting third base coach on the major league staff. Matt Tuiasosopo has accepted a position as minor league infield coordinator.

This isn’t a straight dismissal as Matt Tuiasosopo has been removed as third base coach but has been demoted to minor league coordinator. There have been some questionable decisions to send runners in the last month or so, and for some folks’ tastes some non-sends as well. Matt began his coaching career with the Rome Braves in 2019, moved on to the Gwinnett Stripes in 2021, and has been third base coach in Atlanta starting with the 2024 season.
To replace him is a man who doesn’t need an introduction. Fredi Gonzalez succeeded Bobby Cox as the manager of the Braves in 2011. He lasted until 2016 when Brian Snitker took over. Those years were not looked upon very fondly in Atlanta, and they started a full-blown rebuild under his tenure.
What does this mean? I don’t know, man. Is Fredi now someone who could ultimately take over for Brian Snitker as well? Is Matt only the sacrificial lamb here to appease the fans? When I said someone needed to go 36 hours ago, should I have also asked for a shortstop and maybe a reliever? There’s a lot of unanswered questions going into the first series in June.
