Ozzie Albies took full batting practice again Tuesday and could return on Friday.
The Atlanta Braves were hoping to have injured second baseman Ozzie Albies return in about two weeks after he suffered a fractured toe. Albies appears to be tracking towards an early return after taking batting practice for the second straight day.
Ozzie Albies continues to hit and move around well. He’s eligible to come off the injured list Friday.
Snit said he felt Albies probably could’ve played last night. The Braves will keep shooting for Friday for his return, though Albies isn’t 100% certain he’d come off that day.— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) April 23, 2024
Albies is eligible to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Friday. He told the AJC’s Justin Toscano that he isn’t 100% certain that he will be ready by then, but it could happen soon after. He continues to move around well and isn’t showing any signs that the injury is still bothering him. Brian Snitker added that after watching Albies, he thought he probably could have played in Monday night’s game.
Albies suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch in the toe from Houston’s Spencer Arrighetti. He finished the game, but then experienced increased soreness. X-rays revealed the fracture.
The Braves have no reason to rush him back, but it appears that he is tracking towards an early return and possibly on this homestand. Luis Guillorme and David Fletcher have filled in at second base in a platoon while Albies has been out.
