I guess this counts as a question, technically
AJ Smith-Shawver did not have a good time yesterday. He didn’t even complete the PA against the last batter he faced, getting yanked from the game with a 2-0 count on James Wood.
What are your thoughts on pulling a pitcher mid-PA? I know it’s happened here and there — I think the Braves did it to a reliever last year. Before that, I remember the Braves doing it to Sean Newcomb when they were blatantly sick of him (I think in the shortened 2020 season, but it may have been the year before or the year after). It seems overly aggressive to me.
The situation last night — I wasn’t listening to the broadcast, but it may have been punitive, it may have been to get Aaron Bummer a few more warmup pitches, or, uncharitably, we could say that Brian Snitker was just too slow to recognize what was going on and get out of the dugout, but I don’t think (or would prefer it not be the case) that that’s accurate.
