Reynaldo López looks to continue his strong start to the season as the Atlanta Braves go for a sweep against the Miami Marlins.
The Atlanta Braves will be looking to complete the sweep Wednesday night when they wrap up a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Atlanta took the opener Monday behind a good start by Bryce Elder in his season debut. Max Fried followed that up with an even better performance Tuesday tossing a complete game shutout on just 92 pitches. Reynaldo López will get the start for Atlanta Wednesday while Miami will go with right-hander Sixto Sanchez.
Lopez will be pitching on seven days of rest as the Braves continue to try and manage his workload. He has been stellar through three starts allowing just one run over his first 18 innings. He was dominant in his last start where he allowed four hits and struck out a season-high seven in six innings against the Houston Astros.
The Marlins announced after Tuesday’s game that Sanchez will get the start in the finale. Sanchez hasn’t started an MLB game since Game 3 of the 2020 NLDS against Atlanta. He was then one of the top pitching prospects in the game and looked like he could be a mainstay in Miami’s rotation. However, he has battled a myriad of injuries since and missed all of the last three seasons. He has appeared in seven games in 2024 out of the bullpen and has struggled allowing five runs in just 7 1⁄3 innings. Sanchez hasn’t gone deeper than two innings and hasn’t thrown more than 34 pitches in any appearance so this will likely be more of a bullpen game.
The Braves have outscored the Marlins 8-0 in the series. Travis d’Arnaud has four hits in the series with a double and a homer. Michael Harris also has four hits. The Braves need to get Matt Olson going as he went hitless again Tuesday and now hasn’t had a hit in seven straight games which is the longest stretch of his career. Despite the recent struggles from the middle of the order, the Braves enter play Wednesday second in the majors in runs scored behind only the Diamondbacks.
First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports South.
