He’s 5-for-9 with a double and homer in the series.

So Ronald Acuna is pretty good. Since coming from a second ACL injury and a year-long layoff, he is hitting .387/.471/.707, which is good enough for a 225 wRC+. The funny thing about this is that he’s still 30 points below where Aaron Judge is for the season, but I digress. In a 19-game stretch, Ronnie has accrued 1.4 fWAR, which puts him 5th on the team, and Matt Olson is really the only player (2.1 fWAR) that’s not within striking distance of being eclipsed by a leadoff home run in today’s game. We do have one stolen base during that time, so not surprisingly, the Atlanta Braves seem to be telling him not to test it too much in the early-going. But sheesh, what a comeback, and LOOK AT THAT STATCAST.

Meanwhile, let’s talk about the Rockies offense. It’s bad. By team wRC+, they are the worst in the major leagues at 71, which is NINE POINTS below the second-lowest team (Pittsburgh; I know you’re shocked). Ryan McMahon leads the team with 1.5 fWAR, so Ronnie has basically been just as good in like a third of the games. They only have one other player about 1 win (Hunter Goodman) and one other above half a win (Jordan Beck). Ezequiel Tovar signed that contract extension, and he hasn’t been very good either. Just an absolute wasteland of a team.
