Some more injury news for the Braves and once again, it’s not great.
We got another dark twist in this season, as the Atlanta Braves had to make a late switch to their lineup due another injury issue popping up. This time, it’s Ronald Acuña Jr., as he was a late scratch from tonight’s game in Sacramento due to what’s being reported as “back tightness.”
Acuna was scratched with lower back tightness. Trainer George Poulis got Snitker’s attention during batting practice, to seemingly alert him of Acuna’s discomfort

If you happen to be looking forward to seeing Acuña in action during the MLB All-Star Game and the related festivities, then this injury is happening at an extremely inopportune time Mark Bowman of MLB.com went on to report that Acuña will be reevaluated on Wednesday and they’ll determine if it would be best to let him rest over the break or if he’ll be A-OK to keep playing.
Outside of the All-Star Game, the Braves can ill-afford to lose Acuña for an extended period of time. Heading into tonight’s action, Acuña was hitting .331/.450/.561 with a .435 wOBA, 9 home runs and 183 wRC+ for the season over 169 plate appearances and 40 games. He’s second on the Braves in fWAR at 2.0 despite having played 49 fewer games than Matt Olson, who has produced a team-leading 2.9 fWAR over 89 games so far. So yeah, losing Acuña would make an already-bad situation even worse for the Braves.
