All the news and notes from Monday’s off day

Monday was a pretty quiet day in Braves Country as the team enjoyed the day off in the lead up to the Division Series which begins Friday. Major League Baseball released start times for the first two games of the series Monday. The first pitch for Friday’s Game 1 is scheduled for 4:37 p.m. ET while Game 2 is slated to begin at 5:07 p.m. ET Saturday.

The Postseason will officially begin Tuesday night with the American League Wild Card game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. You can find the complete postseason schedule, with start times through Sunday, in our handy tracker.

Braves News

This is the 30th anniversary of the 1991 worst to first Atlanta Braves team that began it’s run of dominance throughout the 90s. This is a wonderful look back at that team with some forgotten stories included.

After a rough start, Max Fried turned his season around and got better each month. Fried finished the season with a dominant September earning him Pitcher of the Month honors for the National League. He is the first Braves pitcher to be given the honor since Kris Medlen.

Jared Shuster and international signee Ambioris Tavarez headline the list of players who will be participating in instructs for the Braves.

Our NLDS preview began Monday with a look back at the regular season series between the Braves and the Brewers.

MLB News

J.D. Martinez’s status for the American League Wild Card Game likely won’t be decided until Tuesday morning. Martinez suffered an ankle sprain in Sunday’s game when he tripped over the second-base bag while taking his position in right field between innings. You can’t make this stuff up.

The Dodgers’ depth will be put to the test again as they are expected to be without first baseman Max Muncy for the National League Wild Card Game, and potentially longer. Muncy suffered an elbow injury in a collision at first base with Milwaukee’s Jace Peterson. Los Angeles will also be without veteran lefty Clayton Kershaw who suffered another forearm injury in his final regular season start last Friday. Kershaw will miss the remainder of the season.

Some NL East news. As expected, the Mets parted ways with manager Luis Rojas Monday officially declining the 2022 contract option on his deal. Rojas went 103-119 in two seasons as the team’s manager. The club is looking to hire a president of baseball operations this winter who will then make the hire for the team’s next manager.
