
The biggest series of the season begins Tuesday
The race in the NL East will come down to the final week of the regular season for the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta enters Tuesday’s matchup with a 2.5 game edge in the standings and a magic number of five to clinch the division. A series win would all but assure the division for Atlanta but the Braves are just 7-9 against the Phillies this season. The Braves juggled their rotation to line up Charlie Morton and Max Fried for an additional start should they be needed.

Over at FanGraphs, ZiPS projections have the Braves coming out on top in the NL East in the final week of the regular season.
Looks like Braves right-handed prospect Spencer Strider will finish out the final week of the season at Gwinnett.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt will be out of action for a yet to be determined amount of time after X-rays revealed a fracture in his left thumb. Belt was hit with a pitch in Sunday’s game against the Rockies. He will soon meet with team doctors to determine a recovery plan and a timetable for his return.
Free agent to be Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals are reportedly optimistic about the possibility of a reunion for the 2022 season.
Carlos Rodon will start Wednesday’s game against Cincinnati in hopes of shaking off some lingering soreness in advance of the playoffs. Wednesday’s start is expected to help determine Rodon’s availability for the White Sox’s postseason roster.
The A’s placed infielders Elvis Andrus and Jed Lowrie on the 10-day injured list effectively ending their seasons.
