These are the words that the voice keeps repeating: this is a must win series.
With 10 days to go until the trade deadline, the Atlanta Braves continue to show glimmers of the team we all thought they would be only to be reminded all-to-often as to the team they actually have been.
After the first game of the New York Yankees series and the first-half the second game, it looked like the Braves-of-old were back … but then the second-half of game two and game three happened, and it was another series loss for Atlanta.
Is this the week they turn their season around as they welcome the San Francisco Giants to town?
Yes? No? Maybe? Can you repeat the question?
The Giants, who swept Atlanta in early June in a three-game match-up in which each game was decided by a single run, are sitting just on the outside looking in for an National League Wild Card spot while holding the third position in the National League West behind the division-leading Dodgers.
Not to put too fine a point on it, for Atlanta, if time hasn’t run out already, there’s not much time left for them to salvage 2025. They shouldn’t be this bad and yet they have been.
Don’t, don’t, don’t let’s start. We’ve got a weak heart, at least when it comes to this Braves’ team. Tune in this week to see if Atlanta can put the hammer down before heading to Texas to finish off the week or if the rest of this season will be yet another bee in Braves fans’ bonnet.
