I mean, literally, name
I’m going to do anagrams eventually, but not yet. Let’s let Day Two finish.
But, before then, you get to weigh in — what was the best name (literally, name) taken during Day One of the draft? Again, for anyone dense, I’m not talking about the best player or the guy with the most potential or the best “fit” for a franchise. I’m literally just talking about names, not humans or their skillsets.
If you need a refresher, Garrett did the yeoman’s work of updating the tracker for all of Day One here: https://www.batterypower.com/2025/7/13/24466188/2025-mlb-draft-day-1-tracker-and-open-thread-atlanta-braves.
Names that made me chuckle:
- Taitn Gray (okay, not really chuckle, but what was the last time there was an MLB draftee with a “tn” in their name in that order?)
- Steele Hall (college building)
- Griffin Hugus (bro we’re playing baseball, not some sort of mythological dating sim)
- Chase Shores (wasn’t there a song about not doing this? wait, wrong water-based feature)
Welp, time to update the “daily tracker” for like four days.
