Maybe it’s just me
You ever have one of those moments where you’re faced with a fact and you’re not surprised overall, but you’re like, “Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought about that for years?” That’s me and the Angels. Like, sure, the Angels exist. I’ve even been to Angel Stadium. But it was so nondescript, and that’s how I feel about the team. Even though it’s had Mike Trout on the roster forever, and Shohei Ohtani for a long while, and that guy broke Austin Riley’s hand last year, they just don’t register in my mind.
Other teams have something distinctive about them that sticks out more — the specific futility of the Rockies and White Sox, Bob Nutting’s pernicious influence on the Pirates, Dayton Moore’s legacy with regards to the Royals, the Reds having an internal struggle and opting to go away from analytics, and so on. But the Angels? They’re just… there. Maybe. I don’t know, and can’t remember.
Who’s that team for you?
