Alex Verdugo is a perfectly decent left fielder, if you don’t mind someone who can’t hit fastballs, or lefties, or just not hit in general. A .058 ISO is not what you are looking for in a corner defense spot. While we’re talking about defense, -3 outs above average that looks way worse in practice is not what you want either. Marcell Ozuna, sans nagging hip issues, would lose you 1 or 2 outs a week. But he could clear the DH spot for Drake Baldwin or others to partake.
I don’t like to rip players. Verdugo is what he is, unfortunately. It’s not like he has a bad attitude. I appreciate his service but could we please designate Alex Verdugo for assignment? The Braves won’t have Jurickson Profar for two more weeks but Eli White could handle left field. They don’t need him in the second lineup spot either. Eli White can perform an above average defensive left field. Just because Didier Fuentes saw Alex’s quality of defense played in Columbus doesn’t mean he needs to be subjected to it in Atlanta.
