The Jackets face UNCW on Friday
We won’t lie, we were super nervous Georgia Tech was out of the NCAA Tournament field after going 0-2 in the ACC Tournament. In the end, the Jackets will head to Athens this weekend as the #3 seed in Georgia’s regional to square off against the UNCW Seahawks on Friday evening (7pm, ESPN+). UGA will face Army in their first game of the regional.

From the GT media team:
- This will be Georgia Tech Baseball’s 35th NCAA Tournament appearance, and fourth in five years after missing the tournament last season.
- It’s Head Coach Danny Hall’s 24th NCAA Tournament appearance at Georgia Tech.
- Tech last played a regional in Athens in 2008, finishing as the runner up.
- Tech has not played UNCW in baseball since 1987, whom they have a 2-2 record against. If Tech and Army square up, it will be their first game in baseball since 1961.
Tech’s resume had plenty of solid points, notably their series wins against #13 NC State, #16 Virginia Tech, #10 Virginia, and #9 Duke, along with winning five of their final seven series. Those wins were massive in padding our RPI and KPI finishes, where we landed 49th and 34th respectively.
They finished with an even 15-15 ACC record and were reliably near the bubble in the back half of the season. That said, when it came down to the selection committee, they did not list Georgia Tech in their last four in or first four out:

The regional format is a double-elimination tournament. If Tech wins Friday, they will play the winner of the the Georgia/Army game in the winner’s bracket. If they lose, they’ll face the loser of said game in the loser’s bracket. From there, it will depend on how the brackets play out to see who Tech could potentially face in a third game, which would require at least one win.
We’ll have a deeper dive into the weekend later this week on this here website and on Scions of the Southland tomorrow.
