Ibrahima Sacko Enters Transfer Portal

Sophomore Wing Was Looking At Little Play Time

Ibrahima Sacko has entered the transfer portal. He was a freshman last season and got some play time, but not a ton. Coming in he was seen as a bit of a project and that’s what Tech got. He has good size for a wing (6’6” and built) with solid athleticism, but he looked a little lost on the court. In particular he looked tentative and not nearly aggressive enough at any part of his game. His best game of the season was a 13-point performance (on 6-8 shooting) in the loss at Notre Dame. I thought he looked like he had some solid skill so if he gets a better on-court mentality and a little experience I think he can be a really solid player.

This is the type of player that it’s sad to see go. I thought he could have developed at GT and it’s fun seeing guys develop over four years. But, with the transfer in of Luke O’Brien from Colorado his chance of getting meaningful minutes this year has diminished. With Kowacie Reeves and Luke O’Brien both playing a really similar role to him, he was probably going to be on the bench.

I expect him to transfer down a level. He wasn’t a top recruit and didn’t show much his freshman year that would make major conference schools think he could contribute this year. The play time at a lower level could really help him and get him some confidence. He’s from Guinea and spent his senior season in Canada so geography probably won’t be a big pull for him.
