After a brief stint in the NFL, longtime college football coordinator Jim Chaney is returning to the college ranks. On Wednesday, Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Quinlan reported that Chaney is taking a job with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Per Quinlan, “Georgia Tech has added veteran offensive coordinator Jim Chaney to the staff as an analyst.” Noting Chaney, “worked with OC Chip Long and QB coach Chris Weinke at Tennessee. He was on the Saints staff last year.”

Chaney was a part of Kirby Smart‘s first staff in Athens and spent three years on the Bulldogs staff. Now, he comes back to the Peach State wearing different colors.
The 60-year-old assistant helped oversee a run with UGA that resulted in 32 wins, an SEC championship and a national title game appearance. During his time with the Dawgs, Georgia led the conference in rushing and had multiple 1,000-yard rushers in the backfield; setting school records for rushing yards and touchdowns back in 2017.
Jim Chaney’s also served as an offensive coordinator with Tennessee, Arkansas, Pittsburgh and Purdue. He even served as the Vol’s interim head coach in 2012.
Now Chaney brings some of his NFL experience to Tech where he’ll look to help turn around three straight three-win seasons under Geoff Collins.
