What’s up with this extra eligibility?
Partywaggin: I’m assuming as far as MBB and CDS is concerned, we’re just waiting for next season with all his highly rated recruits?
Ben: Obviously, you hope for more immediate results on the court, but given the recruits that CDS has been able to get, Tech is going to give him a chance to get them on the court.
GreenMountainJacket: In two different articles on the AJC this week, I saw reports that Abdul Janneh is transferring and Avery Boyd is returning. I thought both of those guys were already 5th year COVID seniors. Do these guys actually have a year of eligibility left? And if so, are there any other seniors on last season’s roster who might have another year they’re using?
Ben: I think I see the case for Janneh. He started in 2020 and redshirted that year. The only thing I can think is that the NCAA decided to give him an extra year since he redshirted during the Covid season. I could be off-base entirely, but that’s the only justification I can find. As for Boyd, 2020 was shortened for him due to injury. He appeared in 2 games and would have otherwise redshirted. But with the season-ending injury, maybe he got an extra year too? I don’t know, the whole thing is very unclear. At this point, eligibility is a little made-up.
