DressHerInWhiteAndGold: What sport would you like to see added to future Olympiads?
I’d be down with Sporting Clays or FITASC.
Jack: I must clearly be out of the loop on something because I have no idea what those two sports you mentioned are! The World Games operates as essentially the 2nd tier Olympics, incorporating sports that aren’t in the Olympics. American football making it would be super fun, but it feels impractical to do that with how little time between games there would be. Lacrosse I think would be a great addition. It would be a great access point for Native American nations to participate in the Olympics, which they should’ve been in this whole time.
Jake: I definitely want to echo the comment about lacrosse, but I do realize it’s pretty equivalent to American football in its hyper-regionality. Regardless, I absolutely think baseball and softball deserve permanent spots in the rotation, given their massive popularity in the Western Hemisphere and Asia-Pacific regions (which is a massive part of the globe), and that excluding them from the lineup shows the Eurocentricity of the IOC. I would say that cricket falls in a similar boat (though more applicable to the Anglosphere).
Chris: I agree with baseball/softball for sure. Cricket is a good one too. Maybe squash?
Anuj Bhyravabhotla: How much more/longer do you think we can expect Buster Faulkner to lean on the QB Run game?
Jack: As long as it works? The read option still works in college ball as far as I know. King or Pyron as a running option only adds to our versatility. It’s just a matter of how well we can disguise/protect it that will make it effective. With how much better our playcalling was in the 2nd half of the season (granted we had fewer mistakes too), Faulkner I have no doubt has ways to incorporate the QB into the running game. Can’t be too predictable, you know?
Ben: Yeah, why would you fix something if it isn’t working? Haynes King rushed for over 700 yards last year. It’s not like that’s all Faulkner does. Any coach worth his salt will adapt the offense to the personnel that he has, and King runs the ball well, so that’s going to be a feature in the offense.
Chris: I’m happy to keep doing it as long as it works as well as it has.
