Baseball likely a 2-seed no matter what happens down the stretch
This past weekend was a historic one at Russ Chandler Stadium, marking the final regular season home series in Danny Hall’s legendary head coaching career at Georgia Tech Baseball. Before Sunday’s doubleheader against #20 Louisville, Hall’s #17 was retired, joining Mark Teixiera, Jason Varitek, and Jim Luck in the illustrious class of retired baseball numbers at Georgia Tech.
The guys got two much needed wins that Sunday, allowing only two hits over 16 innings played (the first game was shortened to 7 innings) between Brady Jones, Jaylen Paden, and Mason Patel.
“I just felt good about where everybody’s head was,” said Hall about the team going into the doubleheader. It resulted in 7-0 and 2-1 wins to move to 37-15 on the season, tied for the best mark the team has had in their last 15 seasons.
To editorialize for a second, while the complaints have been heard time and time again about Hall’s tenure in the last decade, the level of play in 2025 cannot be ignored with how incredible the pitching staff has been and the reliability of the top of the lineup, even with a seven game losing streak plopped in the middle of the season.
Now, the goal is to host a regional. The numbers don’t give Tech a good chance to do so without A TON of help and winning their next six games, so expecting that is a fool’s errand at this point.
But even so, it’s also reasonable to hope for a regional.
“I think it would mean everything to get more games here at home in front of our fans. It means we’ve played really well in these next two weeks. It gives you hope,” said Hall.
For us Tech fans, getting at least two more home games in the final weeks of the Danny Hall era would be welcome.
