The beginning of the grand story of my 2024; attending the Olympic Games
Hi everyone. Jack here. If this is your first time reading an article at From the Rumble Seat, this is not the usual FTRS content we produce. If there is unusual content here, it’s usually my doing (13 articles about Carson Garrett, convincing people to go read at McCauley Aquatic Center, over analyzing Georgia Tech Volleyball’s uniforms), and the next 30(!) weeks will be no exception.
Some context…
On July 28, 2024, my brother, his girlfriend, and I will fly to Paris, France, beginning a week of Olympic flavored Francophone fun at the first week of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. That day will include: 1. my first transatlantic flight, 2. my first flight into a foreign country. 3. my first flight over any kind of ocean. 4. my first steps in Europe.
While in France, we’ll be taking in women’s rugby in Stade de France, women’s soccer in Bordeaux, and women’s basketball in Lille. If I’m lucky, I may be able to get some time to watch golf at Le Golf National, host of the 2018 Ryder Cup that I never want to mention again.
To mark my preparation for the trip, and as a means to give you fine readers reason to continue visiting fromtherumbleseat.com, every Wednesday, starting with this article, I will have a new edition of what I’m calling “Ramblin’ to Paris.” These next 30 weeks will include history about the Olympics related to Georgia Tech, interviews with GT Olympians, my thoughts on some Olympic topics as an extreme Olympics nerd, my travel plans while in France, coverage on the GT athletes going to Paris this summer, and anything else I may come up with. Some of the content might find its way into the Scions of the Southland feed as well.
I intend to get some content out while I’m in Europe as well. Details on that will be revealed once I figure out what will be feasible. In the meantime, I’m super excited for this challenge I’ve set for myself to do a new kind of column I’ve never done before.
If you’ve been to Paris or the Olympics or taken a transatlantic flight, please do send any and all tips you may have! We’re going to cram as much as we can that week in France. If you have stories from the 1996 Olympics specifically, I’d love to hear those. Maybe one of these posts will be a collection of stories.
Go Jackets!
