Plus some transfer portal news
Happy Bitcoin Halving Day Tech fans! There’s a good mix of Georgia Tech recruiting and transfer portal news in today’s Tidbits. But to get things started, we can look at this first article about the Yellow Jackets’ golf team.
The Yellow Jackets had a pretty good showing yesterday in the first round of the 70th Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship finishing in third place. As the article mentions, seniors Bartley Forrester and Christo Lamprecht led the way for the Yellow Jackets with scores of 5-under par 65 and 4-under par 66, respectively.
Tech being tied with Wake Forest for the most ACC championships with 19 was an interesting tidbit I learned from the article. The Yellow Jackets will be paired with North Carolina and Wake Forest for today’s second round. The Demon Deacons are currently in first place and are seven strokes ahead of the Yellow Jackets. It could be an interesting neck-to-neck battle between the two, but second-place UNC could just as easily be in the mix. Hopefully, the Yellow Jackets, who won last year’s ACC championship, can make it two in a row.
In some basketball recruiting news, the Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team added two four-star prospects. Darrion Sutton and Doryan Onwuchekwa signed letters of intent on Wednesday as announced by head coach Damon Stoudamire.
Stoudamire continues to add talent to the roster as he looks to continue building the team. As the article points out, Tech’s class is currently ranked 12th nationally by 247Sports.
This article is one of two SI articles featuring football transfer portal news. In last week’s Tidbits, we discussed how Tech all but cleaned house with its defensive coaching staff. And as the above article implies, the team can certainly use some help on that side of the ball, particularly on the defensive line. Former Auburn and USC defensive end Romello Height will be visiting Tech, at least that’s what’s being reported. Height was a four-star recruit from Dublin, Georgia who played one season at Auburn but transferred after a season-ending injury.
It doesn’t seem long ago that Tech had quite a bit of talent and depth at Height’s position. He would be a key pick-up in the transfer portal should he end up at Tech.
Georgia Tech continues to bring in talented offensive linemen into the program. As the article points out, in its first transfer portal addition through the spring window, the Yellow Jackets announced former Kentucky offensive lineman Nicholas Pearson has committed to Tech. It’s looking more like Tech will have one of the ACC’s top offensive lines next season. This recent news is definitely both exciting and encouraging.
