Non-conference games set for GT men’s basketball team.

Given that it’s the beginning of the month and everyone should have some “free views” for the AJC site, I’m including a link to an article with an update regarding the NBA Draft which occurred last week. Specifically, it pertains to the status of Moses Wright and Jose Alvarado. Despite not being drafted, both players are getting a shot with NBA teams. Wright agreed to a deal with the Toronto Raptors that will allow him to play in the NBA Summer League. Alvarado signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. This is likely not news for Tech fans, but I wanted to mention it as their statuses were not clear at the publish time of the last Tidbits — also, I thought it would be nice to express a congratulatory note to both players.

So, we know now that both Moses Wright and Jose Alvarado will not be back and Tech next year for the men’s basketball season. The team will be very different because of the loss of those two, but there will be a lot of returning players, including five of the team’s top scorers as the article mentions.

Tech’s non-conference schedule is now set and the article breaks down some of the details. Among the highlights, Clean, Old-Fashioned, Hate will take place on November 19. #THWG. For me, seeing how the team fares with the new freshmen (16th ranked freshman class in the nation is not bad at all) and transfer student Deivon Smith will be interesting. There will definitely be some new leaders to fill the shoes of Wright and Alvarado. Knowing who it will be is really anyone’s guess. With that said, what players do you think could be potential leaders for the team?

With August now upon us, we’re in the home stretch as we count down to the college football season. FTRS has been previewing Tech’s opponents, so I decided to include one of those for today’s Tidbits. The article focuses on Virginia Tech whom Georgia Tech will be playing on October 30th and it will be the homecoming game. So, as the article mentions, there will be a lot riding on this game, regardless of the Yellow Jackets record at that point in the season.

Like the Yellow Jackets, the Hokies are coming off of a lackluster year last season. If both teams struggle again this season, this game might come down to playing for pride and pecking order in the ACC Coastal. But I’ll reiterate that I’m hopeful the Yellow Jackets will have a fair number of wins by that point of the season. The Hokies will be Tech’s eight game of the season, and it’s not unreasonable to imagine the Yellow Jackets at 3-5 or even 4-4. So this game might be key to their hopes of making it to a bowl game for the first time in the Geoff Collins era.
