Georgia has long been hailed as RB U. And while injuries made the tailback rotation a constant work in progress for much of 2023, 2024 is shaping up to witness a return to form.
The Bulldogs are looking to get Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson back from injury, will see what Andrew Paul can do with another year of experience, and have added three freshmen as part of the 2024 signing class. Now, Kirby Smart & Co. have added potentially the biggest piece of the puzzle for a dominant running game, picking up former Florida tailback Trevor Etienne out of the transfer portal.
In 2023 Etienne was the Gators’ second-leading rusher with 753 yards on 131 carries (5.75 ypc), and was also good for 9th best in the SEC in rushing yards per game. He also added 21 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown receiving. In his two seasons in orange and blue (shudder) Etienne notched 249 carries for 1,472 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns to go with 30 receptions for 238 yards. In short, he’s a player who has been productive with the ball on teams with far less help up front than what he’ll enjoy in Athens.
The 5’9, 205 pounder will come to Athens with two years of eligibility remaining. While it’s certainly possible that the Red and Black could still experience a transfer or two from the running back room, it’s clear that barring another outbreak of injuries the group should be a strength for the offense in a way that it was not in 2023. Until later…
