The college football regular season is winding down and the official College Football Playoff ranking will be released in December. But for Desmond Howard, there are only two real contenders for the national title.
Appearing on First Take, Howard made the case that Georgia and his beloved Michigan are the “1A and 1B” in college football right now. He said that Georgia firmly deserves to be at the top spot because of how well they’ve played even while missing some players.
“Stephen A. I was at the game last week in Athens when they played Ole Miss. And the thing about Georgia is they’re getting healthy now. They were missing some linemen. They were missing the best player in college football, Brock Bowers the tight end. Ladd McConkey was missing early in the season, he’s back. Bowers played last week. And they look to be one of the strongest teams in the NCAA right now. I mean, what I saw was very impressive, offensive and defensively,” Howard said, via On3.
“So I would say they’re probably like 1A and 1B, Georgia and Michigan, from what I saw a week ago. The Georgia Bulldogs, they’re peaking at the right time because they’re getting healthy.”

It’s a strong case and the College Football Playoff selection committee is clearly close to agreeing with the assessment since both teams are ranked top three in the country.
Who do you think are the two best teams in college football?
