Diamond Dawg weekly recap: Georgia claims seventh seed, will host regional for second straight year

May 27, 2025 by Dawg Sports

Following a very solid regular season, where we saw the Georgia Diamond Dawgs finish with a regular season record of 42-14, with a conference record of 18-11, the Dawgs have found themselves hosting a regional for the second straight year, claiming the seventh seed in the national rankings.

Georgia is coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss against the Oklahoma Sooners, as they were one-and-done once again in the SEC Tournament. Fortunately for the Dawgs, their regular-season resume spoke for itself as they did not fall too far down in the national rankings.

The Duke Blue Devils, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Binghamton Bearcats will join the Dawgs for the Athens Regional. The winner of the Athens Regional (hopefully the Dawgs) will face the winner of the Oxford Regional, which consists of the Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and Murray State Racers.

If the Dawgs were to win, they would likely host the Super Regional in Athens as well, considering they are the higher seed compared to the rest of those teams. With that being said, the Dawgs have a tough road ahead if they want to make their way to Omaha, as there are plenty of quality programs that are looking to spoil their chances.

Quality starting pitching will be the key if the Dawgs want to make a run at the natty, along with getting the long ball going once again offensively, especially in early innings.

The Athens Regional will begin on Friday, May 30th, and last until Monday, June 2nd.
