ESPN Computer Model Predicts SEC Conference Champion In 2024

The SEC is going to have a ton of massive changes in 2024. Between Texas and Oklahoma joining and Nick Saban retiring as head coach of Alabama, it’s a brave new world in the Southeastern Conference.

But which of the 16 SEC schools is going to emerge as the conference champion in 2024? ESPN crunched the numbers in order to figure it out.

According to the ESPN Football Power Index computer model, only three schools have better than a six-percent chance of winning the conference title: Georgia (32.8-percent), Texas (24.2-percent) and Alabama (14.4-percent).

As you can see, the Georgia Bulldogs look like the team to beat in the SEC, coming out with nearly a 1-in-3 chance of winning the conference title. It’s not a surprise as they’ve dominated the SEC East division in recent years.

Texas won the Big 12 Championship in their final year in the conference and have arguably the best quarterback room between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. There’s also the matter of Texas’ last road game against an SEC team being a decisive win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

As for Alabama, there’s a ton of optimism over what new head coach Kalen DeBoer can do. But he’s no Nick Saban and the school doesn’t seem to have that intimidation factor that the Crimson Tide have inspired for decades right now.
