Former CFB quarterback JT Daniels has officially made his transition into coaching.
According to Mike J. Asti of WV Sports Now (via A to Z Sports): “Former WVU (and also USC, Georgia, Rice) QB JT Daniels has landed his first coaching position. He will be a grad assistant on the staff at West Georgia.”
Noting, “Daniels announced his intentions to break into coaching when he retired as a player.”
Daniels finished his career with the Owls after bouncing around the country with the Trojans, Bulldogs and Mountaineers. In his final college football season in 2023, Daniels threw for 2,443 yards and 21 touchdowns to just seven interceptions before suddenly retiring due to head injury concerns.
While not every stop went as planned, Daniels was always said to have a positive impact in the locker room with his attitude and coachability. He’s also been referred to by Asti as “one of the smartest athletes I’ve ever covered, and I’m talking college or pro.”
Not long after announcing his decision the ex-blue-chip prospect told ESPN.com how much he was looking forward to getting into coaching:
I’m definitely excited to get into coaching, that’s for sure. I loved playing. I always knew one day I’d coach. I didn’t think it would come this soon. But one day, I knew that’s what I was going to be doing.
Sounds like Daniels is doing exactly what he wanted to.
