Former Georgia linebacker Adam Anderson was sentenced to one year in jail on Monday.
According to Wayne Ford
of the Athens Banner-Herald, Anderson pleaded guilty to the sexual battery of two women. In April 2022, a grand injury indicted him of raping a 21-year-old in Athens. A second woman later accused him of sexual assault.
Anderson accepted an Alford plea, which allows him to maintain his innocence but enter the deal in his best interest. Two felony rape charges were reduced to misdemeanor sexual battery charges.
A district attorney asked the judge to impose two consecutive 12-month sentences (or two years), but the judge issued two concurrent 12-month sentences.

Formerly considered a top NFL prospect, Anderson played for the Bulldogs from 2018 to 2021. He recorded 5.5 sacks in seven games as a senior before getting kicked off the team.
Anderson played against Florida on Oct. 30, 2021, a day after a woman reported a rape accusation. Georgia claimed it wasn’t aware of the allegation when Anderson played in what turned out to be his final game.
Per the Athens Banner-Herald, both victims left the courtroom upset over the sentencing. One of the accusers, who said she contemplated suicide after the assault, pointed to Anderson during her statement and called on him to admit to raping her.
