Earlier this Saturday at the NFL Combine, wide receiver Ladd McConkey confirmed what Georgia fans already know: he’s got game.
For starters, McConkey’s measurables stack up with Jets star Garrett Wilson. If that’s not good enough for you, he ran a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash.
Later in the day, McConkey showed off his route-running ability in the gauntlet drill. Let’s just say he passed that test with flying colors.
Countless media members raved about McConkey’s performance this afternoon.
“Ladd McConkey is smoother than old church steps,” Radi Nabulsi wrote. “Catches everything and doesn’t drift off that line like many receivers do. Take him in the first round of you want a winner.”
Kirk Herbstreit said, “Ladd McConkey will be this years Puka!”
“Ladd McConkey working his way into a potential first round pick is insane,” Brooks Austin wrote. “I know it’s been talked about plenty, but that’s a dude that came to Georgia with the gift of speed and toughness. And left arguably the most polished route runner in this class.”
Unlike receivers like Puka Nacua, it’s highly unlikely McConkey experiences a huge slide on draft day. Scouts had him on their radar prior to this weekend’s showcase.
McConkey finished his Georgia career with 119 catches for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s one of the most polished players in this year’s draft.
In less than two months, we’ll find out where McConkey’s pro career will begin.
