Aaron Murray set plenty of records at quarterback for the University of Georgia, but was unable to deliver the elusive national title to Athens. Thanks to Stetson Bennett though, the championship drought is over.
Bennett, a former walk-on, had the night of his life on Monday, bouncing back from early struggles and a costly fourth-quarter fumble to lead Georgia to a 33-18 win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
The undersized and unheralded Atlanta native, who threw two touchdowns in the final period, is now a legend forever and always in his home state. There are few people who understand the magnitude of what Bennett accomplished more than Murray, who was in attendance last night and congratulated his fellow Bulldog QB after the game.
This morning, Murray shared a picture on Twitter of him celebrating with Bennett and included a heartfelt message alongside it.
“This job ain’t easy and your path was harder than any of us before you. So proud of you brother! The GOAT!” he wrote.

It is tough to encapsulate how insane Bennett’s story is. Going from Georgia walk-on to JUCO quarterback and back to Athens on scholarship is impressive enough.
But to then go out and become the starting QB on the team that snapped the four-decade streak of heartbreak at the national level? That’s something you can’t even find in a storybook.
