Are you ready for some football?!?!?!
Ready or not, college football is here. Your Georgia Bulldogs will take to the turf at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday at noon, and we couldn’t be more excited. There’s a lot to talk about between now and then, but for starters let’s dive into what’s making news in Bulldog Nation.
Is Carson Beck the most talented quarterback in the SEC? It sounds like at least a couple of league coaches think so. I’m always a little skeptical of the perennial offseason “anonymous coach intel” pieces. But I genuinely struggle to name a quarterback in the SEC with the combination of physical tools and demonstrated game day mettle that Beck has coming into 2024.
DawgNation asks who the breakout Bulldog of 2024 might be, with some pretty good responses from their team of writers. But my money is on second year defensive back Joenel Aguero. Aguero looks set to start at Star, having beaten out a handful of other talented veterans for the job. Replacing Tykee Smith at that spot will be a tall order, but I think Aguero’s going to really turn heads.
In NFL Dawg news, Stetson Bennett has survived some up and down performances to secure the Rams’ backup quarterback spot heading into their week one matchup with the Lions. It’s great news for a guy who has gone through a lot just to get to this point. And while it’s likely than veteran Jimmy Garrapalo will take over the QB2 slot when he returns from a season-opening suspension, the Mailman may yet have a shot to do Mailman things. And that’s great news.
That ought to get you started. We’ll be back with more Bulldog news and notes later. Until then….
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
