Monday ‘Dawg Bites Still Doesn’t Care for Auburn

NCAA Football: Arkansas at Georgia

You know what week it is. It’s the hatingest week of the year!

Before you embark on hating Auburn with the fury of ten thousand suns fueled by another ten thousand suns, let’s take a look at what’s happening in Bulldog Nation and beyond.

The most pressing news for those in Red and Black right now is the health of JT Daniels, whose oblique strain has moved into his lats, some suspects on the way up to his trapezius and/or other points.

Kirby remains noncommittal about the status of the ‘Stache, but he is committed to being done defending his quarterback situation.

Frankly, I don’t blame him. I know it’s personally hurtful to some in the national media that Georgia plays a quarterback who was not a five star, blue-chip recruit according to all the major recruiting services when he came out of high school nearly 6 years ago. That’s not how a program like Georgia is “supposed” to do it. But statistically Stetson Bennett is currently situated ahead of the starting quarterbacks at a lot of schools vying for conference championships and even playoff spots. He’s third in completion percentage in the SEC behind Mississippi State’s Will Rogers and Alabama’s Bryce Young. He’s thrown as many touchdown passes (6) as Bo Nix and more than Emory Jones (5).

The Mailman is not the same quarterback he was when he was thrown into the fire last season, nor is he surrounded by the same cast. JT Daniels is the starter for a reason, but unlike last year the drop off isn’t acute enough to be a game changer in my mind.

Speaking of teams Stetson Bennett is undefeated against as a starter, Georgia opened as a 15 point favorite on the road against the Plainsmen, though the line has wiggled down to 14.5 at some books. Based on what I’ve seen of both teams I think I’d take the ‘Dawgs and give the points. Even with Stetson Bennett at the helm and a developmental receiving corps Georgia is better on offense than any Auburn has faced.

On the other side of the ball, everyone is dazzled by the new Bo Nix, who looks a lot like old Fran Tarkenton. We here at Dawg Sports are also pretty excited about the prospect of Bo Nix extending plays to make something happen.

Bo Nix is going to try this stuff against Georgia and Channing Tindall will end up picking pieces of him out of his face mask.

Remember kids, when you “just go out there and make something happen” that thing could be either good or bad.

Will be back later today to look back at Arkansas and begin the process of looking forward to Auburn. Until later …

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
