ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that Bulldog backup quarterback Jaden Rashada will be entering the transfer portal. Rashada came to Athens after starting as a true freshman at Arizona State in 2023, redshirted this season, and would leave with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Some transfer portal departures are unexpected. This one does not fall into that category. It always seemed that the plan was for Rashada to come in this season, learn the offense, and compete with Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi for the starting spot upon Carson Beck‘s departure. However, with Stockton having distanced himself from the competition and entering 2025 as the presumptive starter, it did not really make sense for Rashada to ride the pine in Athens for another season when he could compete for playing time elsewhere.

The former five star recruit leaves the Classic City having never attempted a pass, or in fact taking a snap in live action. I suspect he may go elsewhere and do some great things, and I wish him well. But the fact is this just was not the right situation for him long-term. The QB room for 2025 will likely consist of Stockton, Puglisi, and true freshman Ryan Montgomery and Hezekiah Millender.

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
