Georgia football will likely be without a pair of key contributors for the upcoming season opener against Clemson, according to reports.
Tight end Darnell Washington and defensive back Tykee Smith will miss “3-to-4 weeks minimum” according to 247Sports’ Josh Pate. Both players suffered foot injuries in practice on Tuesday and have undergone surgery, per DawgsDaily.
With the Clemson game two-and-a-half weeks away, the Bulldogs will probably have to bank on Washington and Smith being sidelined in Week 1.

Washington, a former five-star recruit, started seven games as a true freshman in 2020. He finished the year with seven receptions for 166 yards, including three grabs for 46 yards in the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati.
Smith, meanwhile, transferred to Georgia from West Virginia this offseason. The junior safety was a second-team All-Big 12 and third-team All-America selection by the Associated Press in 2020, compiling 61 tackles (eight for loss) and two interceptions in 10 games for the Mountaineers.
Georgia and Clemson will meet on Saturday, September 4 in Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
