Day Two of SEC Media Days brings the Top ‘Dawg and several of his charges to the podium to talk about the upcoming season.
Kirby Smart is scheduled to take the stage in Nashville around 10:45 Central/11:45 Eastern. He’ll be joined by tight end Brock Bowers, defensive back Kamari Lassiter, and center Sedrick Van Pran. If the past is any sort of preview, I wouldn’t expect too many hot sound bites from the media-savvy Bulldog contingent. But it will be interesting to hear their conceptual framework for attacking the 2023 season. You may recall that it was at Media Days 2022 that Coach Smart famously declared that “We will not be hunted at the University of Georgia.” I wouldn’t say he was correct, many teams did pull an Elmer Fudd in attempting to bag the Bulldogs. It’s just that they all ended up stuffed and mounted on the wall in Butts-Mehre for their efforts.
You can watch the festivities live on the SEC Network. We’ll update this thread with anything noteworthy that emerges when the Big ‘Dawgs speak, and as always welcome your thoughts on the proceedings. Until then….
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
UPDATE #1: Coach Smart confirmed transfer defensive back Smoke Bouie has left the program. The Bainbridge native transferred in from Texas A&M but has been rumored for several weeks now to no longer be in Athens or participating in football activities.
UPDATE #2: Asked about recent allegations that a Tennessee assistant paid former Bulldog Darnell Washington cash and unsanctioned benefits during his recruitment Coach Smart says he didn’t have any knowledge of the allegations prior to reading the published reports, and was not contacted by the NCAA about the allegations during the investigation.
UPDATE #3: We may have our Kirby mindset quote of the season: “I don’t care about the 3 peat, the 2 peat or the 1 peat. I care about complacency.” That’s not exactly breaking news, but it’s the kind of thing you want to hear.
