It’s Thursday, and your Georgia Bulldogs are still the undefeated, untied, undisputed, undenied champions of college football.
Theyre also in the same conference they’ve been in for decades, which may be more than most other Power 5 college football teams can say by this time next year.
But forget about the guys in suits squeezing every last dollar out of the sport and breaking their agreements to do so (while arguing that the players shouldn’t be allowed to do the same). Let’s talk actual football.
Coach Smart updated on some key injuries as practice gets underway, and it sounds like a bit of a good news/bad news situation. 2022’s leading tackler Smael Mondon is a bit ahead of schedule to return, as is tailback Branson Robinson. But key edge rusher Mykel Williams is limited with a foot injury as is defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins.
As long as we don’t pile up more wounded Dawgs when contact drills get going in earnest, and those guys get back and in game shape, I think the Red and Black should be pretty okay. Avoiding injury, conditioning effectively, and building team chemistry are the hallmarks of Camp Kirby.
The injuries to Williams and Ingram-Dawkins are among the reasons the staff is a little worried about D-line depth. With Andrew Paul recovering from a torn ACL and Robinson still limited Kirby noted a potential bright spot at tailback: walk-on Cash Jones.
Another bright spot? Inside linebacker Xavian Sorey, who’s stepped up his intensity and leadership with Mondon out.
Finally, what’s kooler than being kool? Being Kirby kool.
Kirby Smart is sporting a sweater on this the 2nd day of August, two thousand and twenty three…

What can you say? In Kirby’s mind every day is the first week of January and he’s got a title to play for. Until later…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
