Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! Not just any Tuesday, but the last one in September. And just a few days before the first trip to Tuscaloosa for Kirby Smart and his charges since 2020. That did not end well. And if your #2 ranked Bulldogs are reeling and lame after a 13-12 rock fight against Kentucky, while the #4 Crimson Tide summarily dispatched a Wisconsin team, dealing it the worst home defeat in 17 years, you could probably use a drink. Oh, sorry… wrong column.
I should apologize for stepping on Macondawg’s IP, and possibly not throwing enough flowers on our overlords from Alabama. So I’ll tone down my rhetoric and be more mindful from here on out. Don’t worry, I’ll voice more worry as the week progresses. For now let’s just jump into the news:
Those AP rankings aren’t the only thing on the line. Georgia is currently riding a conference record 28 game SEC regular season win streak as well as a 16 game SEC road win streak. Yep, since 2020 at Tuscaloosa.
Head Visor Kirby Smart held his game week press conference Monday, and a lot of the attention was to injured Bulldogs. There’s some good news about three important defensive front pieces: Mykel Williams looks better but hasn’t practiced, Jordan Hall is close to returning, and Warren Brinson was actually practicing last week and looks probable.
Of course he also gave his opinion of what he sees in Alabama, and he was very effusive in praise of Elephant QB Jalen Milroe. Funny, I didn’t hear what he thought of crucial 4th down Milroe pass attempts that were juggled and hit the turf, then called complete.
There will be no lack of press for Saturday’s nights Georgia-Alabama game. It will be covered by everyone with a college or sports podcast, radio show, or TV segment. So if you’d like to ignore the present and start projecting end of season implications, here’s some from ESPN.
Did you know Gameday is coming to Tuscaloosa? Gameday is coming to Tuscaloosa. More precisely, “College Gameday Built By The Home Depot” is coming to Tuscaloosa. I enjoy about 4/5ths of that show.
Alabama has been one of the Gameday featured teams 59 times, more than anyone else, and has hosted it 19 times (behind Ohio State). Those are not surprises. What is surprising is the Tide’s record when ESPN gets off the bus. Of course this time will be the one where Nick Saban can commute easily, walking from his much-larger corner office than current UA coach Kalen DeBoer.
Looking forward, CBS ESPN ABC Disney Bob Iger has announced the game time for next week’s version of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. The Auburn Tigers will bring their particular brand of turnovers and finger-pointing to Athens to face Georgia at 3:30 pm, Saturday October 5.
I hope that can get your day started. I could insert a sartorially-inspiration TikTok using coarse language. But there’s no need, because it’s always a great day to be a Georgia Bulldog. And as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
