The penal rough and the ubiquitous bunkers at Oakmont have done their jobs so far, making many of the world’s premier professional golfers look merely very good rather than preternatural. Through two rounds only three golfers are below par in the U.S. Open. And while not in that top theee, a pair of former Bulldogs remain within striking distance to win a major championship.
Macon native Russell Henley sits 8th in the field at +2 following a steady even par second round. Fellow ‘Dawg Chris Kirk is in a large group of golfers tied for 12th at +3.
Thirteen players will actually have to finish their second rounds this morning, as weather brought an end to the evening’s festivities while they were still on the course. A pair of Classic City Canines, Harris English and Brian Harman, are currently flirting with the cut line at +7. While each would need a weekend run for the history books to get back in contention, it would still be nice to see both make the weekend field.
NBC and USA have the television coverage, with USA opening the TV coverage this morning at 10 a.m. ET, followed by NBC at 12 p.m. ET. Featured group streaming coverage can be found on Peacock, USOpen.com and the USGA app. Until later…
