AFC Contender Urged To Reunite With Six-Time Pro Bowler

June 4, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

ravens urged reunite campbell

AFC contender the Baltimore Ravens are urged to reunite with six-time Pro Bowler Calais Campbell this offseason. According to a report, the team needs a deeper pass rush rotation so reuniting with the former Pro Bowler could give them that. It could make sense considering the Ravens saw Jadeveon Clowney walk this free agency to sign with the Carolina Panthers. Campbell isn’t what he was a couple of years into his prime but he provides a boost for Clowney’s replacement.

The Miami product did play for the Ravens between 2020-2022 so it makes sense why sources believe this could be a fit. However, Mike Macdonald isn’t the defensive coordinator for the Ravens anymore since Zach Orr is taking over those duties. The Ravens would know what type of playing they’re getting out of Campbell. He may not be the same but he could still endure a force to collapse the pocket for an offense.

Campbell’s presence would be crucial, especially considering the season Justin Madubuike was having last year. However, imagine the dominance that the Ravens would be getting if they made this pair happen. Madubuike is making pressure his specialty considering he was leading the league in 38 pressures from a 3-tech alignment. He would become stronger if the Ravens decided to add Campbell to the mix if the opposing team were to double-team Madubuike.

However, the free agency hasn’t been working in Campbell’s favor in terms of finding the next team. He was able to finish last season with 6.5 sacks, 56 tackles, including 10 for a loss. These numbers prove that he can still have a lot of consistency at the age of 37. It seems like it was imminent that he was going to sign with a team but it can come at any time.

Who’s Still Looking for a Pass Rusher?

Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris said he’s open to bringing Campbell back for another year. However, there haven’t been any negotiations or contract talks with him despite being one of the best defensive parts of the Falcons’ defense. Surprisingly, no team hasn’t been getting in contact with him or hosting a visit with Campbell. His age could be a reason why a team hasn’t been reaching out, regardless of what he could bring to the table.

The longer he waits, the more likely he’ll decide to retire from the league. He doesn’t have many years in the tank like most consistent pass rushers in the NFL. However, some sources are still linking to teams like the Eagles and Jaguars this offseason. The same source said that Campbell’s presence would help Philadelphia’s defense considering they have no one on there who has played more than three seasons in the league.

Fletcher Cox leaves a big void in the trenches for the Eagles. However, he could return to Jacksonville where he played his best football in his tenure. Here are some potential destinations for the Miami product.

Potential Destinations

Campbell can create some impact with the Saints despite them signing Chase Young. However, Young hasn’t been producing big numbers so he could be a huge signing to help him alongside. The Saints know what type of player he can be after facing him twice last season. Campbell isn’t an overnight fix for the team but he’s solid for depth.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have one of the best defensive tackles in the league after signing Chris Jones to a mega deal. George Karlaftis a reliable edge defender but Campbell’s addition would make the roster a Super team considering he could be ring-chasing in his career. It’s always a good idea to invest in a Plan B to avoid any mishap of an injury to this blockbuster defense. Another team that needs another pass rusher is the Dallas Cowboys.

They had one of the worst run defenses last season and after losing Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong, they still have yet to replace them. They were able to get Eric Kendricks but it’s only so much he can do coming in his first year with America’s team.
