Cam Newton Rips The Falcons’ Decision On Kirk Cousins

The Atlanta Falcons made an aggressive move at the quarterback position this week.

They signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract so that he could be their starting quarterback. They weren’t getting good quarterback play over the last few seasons so they felt it was prudent to make a splash.

While most pundits agree with the Falcons’ decision, Cam Newton isn’t one of them. He doesn’t like that the Falcons gave him that much money with almost no playoff success.

“It is extremely alarming that he only had one playoff win in 12 years,” Newton said, (first transcribed by On3). “He’s coming off of an injury. Why didn’t they get Justin Fields? I can’t make it about me, but if I were to make it about me, it’s like, I’m in Atlanta.”

While Cousins is coming off a torn Achilles and will be 36 when the 2024 season starts, he’s still one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

Before he got hurt, he was having a great 2023 season, completing 69.5% of his passes for 2,331 yards through the air, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.

He’ll try and get back to where he left off when the 2024 season gets going in September.
