ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky.

The first three picks of the 2021 NFL Draft went toward three highly-touted quarterback options. This year, the QB draft pool isn’t quite as enticing.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky named the one NFL franchise he believes should “legitimately entertain” drafting a quarterback in the first round.

For the first time since 2007, the Falcons will not enter the season with Matt Ryan as their starting QB.

After a failed attempt to land now-Browns signal caller Deshaun Watson, the Atlanta organization traded Ryan to Indianapolis earlier this offseason. In response to this move, the team signed veteran backup Marcus Mariota as their expected QB1 heading into the 2022 season.

Mariota has five years of NFL starting experience with the Tennessee Titans (2015-19), but has spent the past two seasons as a backup behind Derek Carr in Las Vegas. As of right now, the Falcons’ only backup option behind Mariota is 2021 undrafted free-agent pickup Feleipe Franks.

The consensus top-three quarterback options in this year’s class are Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett, Liberty’s Malik Willis and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral.

The Falcons currently hold the No. 8 overall pick in the draft. With the Carolina Panthers potentially taking a QB with their No. 6 pick, the Atlanta organization may need to trade up in order to get their preferred option.
