Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Friday, Sept. 24

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Links of the Falcons variety for a Friday.

The Falcons take on the Giants on Sunday in The Battle of The Beatens. We’ve got preview notes on that tilt and more in today’s Falcoholinks.

Giants on deck for Week 3

Both the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Giants find themselves winless to start the 2021 NFL season, so naturally, they’re matching up for a clash in Week 3. Somebody will win this thing, but considering Atlanta’s recent run, it will end in a tie.

Based on the stats from the season’s first two weeks, the Giants are slightly favored on both sides of the ball. Concerning, to put it lightly. Cornerback A.J Terrell and wide receiver Russell Gage potentially missing this contest certainly won’t matters.

What would improve the Falcons’ odds of not going 0-3 is the pass rush consistently stringing together the flashes of production we saw against the Bucs.

A rebuild bait-and-switch?

The Falcons’ top brass has maintained that the team is not in rebuild mode, even with the firings of Dan Quinn, Thomas Dimitroff, a litany of coaches, the trade of Julio Jones, and the seemingly unending in-the-red state of their salary cap situation.

The first two games of the season have given the fanbase absolutely zero confidence that this is a team in contention, and the frustration is approaching a boiling point. Folks have seen the reality, and at the moment, it appears like they were sold a bill of goods.

We’ll see what Sunday holds.

Presser notes

Thursday’s media availability provided us with some useful nuggets as we head into Sunday against the Giants.

A PS addition and a PS IR stint

Running back Caleb Huntley made his way back to Atlanta’s practice squad after being cut, and unfortunately, he’s now landed on injured reserve with an as-yet-undisclosed injury. The Falcons have signed bulky, appropriately-named defensive tackle to take his spot.
