Allgeier just made it all the way to the end zone.
The Falcons went up to Chicago for a battle against the Bears and the elements and absolutely got wrecked in the worst defensive performance of the season, as well as an absolutely brutal game on offense as well.
This is championship weekend for the majority of leagues and the roller coaster Falcons offense took a downturn at the worst possible time. There were a couple of decent performances (from the running backs specifically), but nobody else showed up.
There is a lot of great content available here at The Falcoholic, and I encourage you to check it out if you want some in-depth analysis. This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than pure statistics). Here is Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 17’s defeat against the Chicago Bears.
Fantasy Stud/Dud 2023 History:
Past Studs: Bijan Robinson (5), Drake London (2), Falcons D/ST (2), Younghoe Koo (2) Tyler Allgeier (1), Kyle Pitts (1), Desmond Ridder (1), Jonnu Smith (1)
Past Duds: Kyle Pitts (4), Drake London (4), Bijan Robinson (3), Younghoe Koo (2), Tyler Allgeier (1), Desmond Ridder (1)
Fantasy Stud – Tyler Allgeier
Stat Line: 5 carries, 13 rushing yards, 1 catch, 75 receiving yard, 1 receiving touchdown: 14.8 standard league points; 15.8 PPR points
Tyler Allgeier took a decided backseat to starting running back Bijan Robinson today, getting out-touched by the rookie 18-6, and he did next to nothing with his five carries. In fantasy, all it takes is one play to completely flip a performance from horrible to great.
If you were in a pinch through late season injuries and were reliant on Allgeier in your lineup this weekend, you were rewarded greatly when Taylor Heinicke threw him a screen pass on the team’s first play of the third drive which saw him take advantage of perfect blocking to take it all 75 yards for a touchdown. It was the longest play of Allgeier’s career and his first receiving touchdown of the season.
You’ve for the most part gotten a good return from the BYU alum this season if you took him in the double digit rounds of your draft back in August. He’s recorded 842 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns this season and he should be a high end handcuff for Bijan in next year’s draft as well.
Dud
Kyle Pitts: 1 catch, 5 receiving yards: 0.5 standard league points; 1.5 PPR points
This has gotten legitimately ridiculous at this point. Pitts, the highest drafted tight end in NFL history who nearly set the NFL’s all time single season rookie tight end receiving record, has been a complete dud over his second and third seasons in the league.
A little bit of everything has contributed to it, from poor coaching unable to scheme him open, to poor quarterback play behind Marcus Mariota, Desmond Ridder, and Taylor Heinicke, to Pitts’ own downright poor performance on the football field. Yesterday, he was targeted five times and had one reception for a season low five yards.
Coming into this week Pitts was the overall TE12. While that’s solid, that’s just not good enough for someone of his draft pedigree. He has thus far secured six touchdowns in three seasons and has yet to break 700 receiving yards in 16 games this year.
