The Atlanta Falcons made some positive strides on offense last season, finishing 15th in the NFL with 21.5 points per game. However, the lack of offensive balance was undeniably one of the team’s biggest issues.
The Falcons averaged the third-most rushing yards per game (159.9) in 2022, but they ranked 31st in passing yards (158.3). So what exactly should we expect from the offense in 2023?
While second-year QB Desmond Ridder is relatively unproven, the front office has done a good job of putting talent around him. With a dominant running game to lean on and two big targets in Kyle Pitts and Drake London, Ridder and the Falcons offense could catch the league by surprise this season.
NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt named Atlanta as his dark-horse candidate for the league’s top offense this season.
“The weapons are there, the youth is there, the head coach has been around and coached really good offenses,” said Brandt. “Bijan Robinson is your offensive rookie of the year, Kyle Pitts has the explosion we’ve been waiting for, and Desmond Ridder just can sling it. And it’s one of the most pleasant surprises of the season.”
