Most NFL teams don’t intentionally carry 2 punters so is the writing on the wall for Nizialek?
You know when Younghoe Koo is called upon to punt the ball, something has gone horribly wrong. That’s where the Falcons found themselves on Sunday due to the random and unexpected injury to punter Cameron Nizialek.
Nizialek had actually performed well lately after a very rough outing in week 2 against the Buccaneers. That performance was so bad the team signed Dustin Colquitt to their practice squad as an insurance policy. Well, it looks like they’re calling in that policy as the team is set to bring Colquitt up to the 53-man roster.

In order for Atlanta to make this move, there has to be a corresponding cut. Unless the team is just infatuated with having 2 punters on the active roster, it seems a given that Nizialek is going to injured reserve, where he’ll spend a minimum of 3 weeks before he can return.
To his credit, Colquitt has been around the block. He was steadily employed from 2005 thru last year and has a lifetime average of 44.8 yards per punt. At 39 years old, he’s clearly not the long-term solution for the position, but he’s a reliable veteran and the Falcons need a little of that right now.
