Falcons to interview Wink Martindale for DC vacancy, per report

January 14, 2025 by Falcons Wire

According to reports from the NFL Network, the Atlanta Falcons have scheduled two interviews for their defensive coordinator vacancy. The team will interview Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale on Tuesday, and former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo this week.

Martindale, 61, is the NCAA’s highest-paid defensive coordinator and has a wealth of experience in the NFL. Before taking over at Michigan in 2024, Martindale was the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens (2018-2021) and the New York Giants (2022-2023).

He served as the Ravens linebackers coach for six years (2012-2017) before being named Baltimore’s defensive coordinator in 2018.

The Falcons fired defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake after a disappointing finish to the 2024 season. Based on the team’s two scheduled interviews, it appears Atlanta is looking for an experienced coach to add to the staff.

Anarumo, 58, is another experienced defensive coach who spent the last six years as the Bengals defensive coordinator.
